Vesper

Posted: March 21 2014

In 1953 James Bond coined the phrase 'shaken, not stirred' while ordering a dry vodka martini in the novel 'Casino Royale'. Aside from the fact no one has ever stirred a martini, ever, 007 was actually ordering a Vesper.

  • 3 parts Lockhouse Gin
  • 1 part Lockhouse Vodka
  • 1/2 part Lillet
  • wide strip of lemon zest

First, find your tuxedo (i prefer the white dinner jacket but live your life).  If you can't find your own Vesper Lynd (are you sensing the irony?) then the cocktail will have to suffice.  Combine the ingredients in shaker with ice, 10 seconds of shaking, check your hair, strain into a chilled cocktail glass, twist the strip of lemon zest and then use it as garnish.

Bloody Caesar

Posted: March 21 2014

Buffalo's neighbors to the north have made there fair share of miss steps along the way.  Denim on denim, ducks on their currency, the beebs.  But, in the defense of our fellow north american countrymen they have given us Seth Mcfarlane, Lorne Michaels, Phil Hartman, John Candy, hockey and their national cocktail the Bloody Caesar.

  • Celery salt
  • 1 1/2 parts Lockhouse Vodka
  • 4 parts Clamato
  • 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 dashes Tabasco Sauce
  • Prepared horseradish

Now i know what you are thinking and you are right, clamato is easily the worst sounding ingredient you could think of let alone have to say out loud.  BUT!!! much like the way a mullet flows so gracefully out from underneath a hockey helmet Canada figured out a way to appreciate something that sounds so awful until you put it in its perfect setting.  From then on you can't imagine watching fist fights on ice, or in this case enjoy brunch with out it.

You are going to need three tall glasses.  But i am only making one drink?  Why would i need three glasses?  Well much like our beloved Sabres its going to look like we don't know what we are doing but i promise it will all make sense in the end.  Coat the rim of a tall glass with celery salt and set aside.  I am assuming at this point you are already watching the Bills pre game and are good and ready for a drink, go easy.   Like the playoffs its coming soon.  Add the remaining ingredients one of the remaining glasses and mix back and forth several times.  Strain into the previously prepared glass and now you understand why you needed three glasses.
